Pulse Radio in a community radio station for the community by the community, if you have every wished to give something back to the community in which we all live, what better way than to be involved in a truly local radio station. While everyone automatically assumes being involved in radio means as a presenter, you might like to read a little further, there are in fact multiple jobs which are all volunteer positions, below is just a sample.
Your own weekly evening programme
If you would like your own regular programme, you will need to complete our Basic Radio Skills Course first. Which is free!
Everyone needs to complete the course to ensure they are technically proficient in the studio and your show content meets Pulse Radio policies on music and speech. Please note: All shows have to be approved by the board of directors before being aired, the board consider new programs to ascertain if a similar show is already being aired and also is the content of the proposed program suitable both legally and time wise.
Overnight shows
Our overnight shows are all pre-recorded, and anyone can make one. You do not need to have completed the Basic Radio Skills Course first. If you have got an idea, and the required material, we will assist you technically. Please note: All shows have to be approved by the board of directors before being aired, the board consider new programs to ascertain if a similar show is already being aired and also is the content of the proposed program suitable both legally and time wise.
Shows can be 1 or 2 hours long, and while many people focus on a particular artist or theme, this is not essential. All we require is that any music you play fits the Pulse Radio music policy and no liable material is used within your program.
Interviews and features
We are always looking for people to go out and about in our community to record interviews or make features, about anything from local bands to local good causes.
The majority of these interviews and features will complement the daytime programs between 7 am and 7pm, however there are opportunities on other programs too. We will offer you any training you need.
Behind the scenes
There are plenty of things we need help with behind the scenes. Along with basic admin tasks from copy typing, photocopying, producing fliers, maintaining databases, there is a lot of work supporting on-air presenters and helping promote the station:
• Researching interviews and features
• Editing programmes
• Liaising with record companies
• Developing contacts within the community
• Designing publicity material
• Selling advertising
• Writing funding applications
• Updating the website
• Pulse Roadshows
• Preparing events lists and other material for presenters
Events and festivals
Pulse Radio are very lucky in that we are situated within the Cheddar Valley surrounded by the Mendip hills, as many locals are aware there are lots of events and festivals all year round, Pulse Radio will either attend or promote these to both the local communities and visitors alike to our beautiful part of Somerset. We need people to help with all aspects – setting up, getting involved on the day, distributing publicity.
We will also need street teams that regularly distribute flyers around area, hand out poster to supporting businesses, carry out audience awareness surveys, and generally help raise our profile of Pulse Radio within the communities it servers.
Our very own Guinness World Record hold Jack Hill is to feature in a new world record attempt to be held in London this summer, he is also to appear on Radio One.
