Press Release
5th April 2012
Community Radio for the Cheddar Valley…….
…will soon become a reality now the team at Pulse Media Broadcasting Limited have secured a five year community radio licence to broadcast from their studios in Cheddar. Pulse Radio started in late 2007 as an idea by Chief Executive Mark Carney who identified the need for a broadcaster in the local communities of Axbridge, Banwell, Blagdon, Burrington, Charterhouse, Cheddar, Chew Valley, Chew Magna , Churchill, Cross, Draycott, East Brent, Lower Langford, Mark, Priddy, Rodney Stoke, Rowberrow, Sandford, Shipham, Weare, Webbington, Wedmore, Wrington, Winscombe and the surrounding areas.
The Pulse Radio, Cheddar studios have been broadcasting as an online radio station for the past four years and have received excellent hit rates and response from its listeners. Pulse Radio may appear on the face of it a small station however this could not be further from the truth with a full on and off air team of radio professionals who have been working to ensure that their listeners would be receiving the best in community radio when the station starts broadcasting on its as yet to be confirmed FM frequency.
Mark Carney CEO, made the following statement; “ It is with great pride that today I am able to announce on 3rd April we were successful in obtaining a licence from Ofcom the Governments regulator to enable us the opportunity to bring something very special to our community . With the demise of the local Cheddar TV relay during the recent digital switchover many residents within the Cheddar valley have lost the opportunity of local information without the aid of a satellite receiver. Pulse Radio will bridge this void by ensuring listeners are kept up-to-date on all matters local. I am very proud to say that local people will broadcast local information to local residents something that is unfortunately slowly being eroded from the play out schedules of surrounding stations. The Board of seven Directors are very proud of their achievements to date which have not only included believing in the station but also by showing their commitment with the construction of our purpose built studios within the centre of Cheddar for the benefit of the whole community.
It has been a very long road to get our station established and an agonisingly long time in waiting for the decision to be made by Ofcom to our application which we were able to submit from 1st April 2011.
As the heading states, this is a community station and therefore it is a non-profit company with Directors holding no shares and is open to ordinary members of the community who wish to participate in the station.
Regarding our anticipated switch on date for FM broadcast to commence, this cannot currently be announced as we are still awaiting final confirmation from the Ofcom technical team as to our exact frequency. The Board however will do all within their power to bring the station on air at the earliest opportunity.”

Work on our new web server began early in 2012 this also included our streaming server.
Work on a new streaming server was completed at the end of January and now streams many of our third party stations we host for, Pulse Radio has however decided not to restart its own broadcasts at this time.
Instead the board of Directors along with the stations presenters felt it would be a good time to finish off many of the back-end processes which are required to run an effective radio station.
More InformationPulse Radio rebuild website ahead of Ofcom decision.
Many of you will have noticed that our site has been unavailable for the last 4 weeks, this has been due to a number of factors which includes a brand new web server which host our site plus numerous sponsors websites.
In anticipation of getting an FM licence from Ofcom the board of Directors felt it would be wise to take this opportunity to give our old site a rest and construct a new site which hopefully listeners and our own volunteers would find easier to both understand and use.
